A quick look into artist Ansel Adam’s photographs
Ansel Adams is a household name. He is known for his photography of the Yosemite Valley and The Sierra Nevada in general. He is primarily known as a landscape photographer. But the quality and expressiveness of his work were achieved through manipulation in the darkroom. This put him in the art photography category. He was a founding member of the Sierra Club. He worked hard to have the Sierra preserved as much as possible so that the public can enjoy them in their most pristine state. Many people got to know the Sierra and Yosemite Valley through his photographs.
Adam's gallery in the national park show prints of some of his classic Yosemite Valley photographs. They are always good about showing the works of younger photographers who are working in the same veins of the 1920s and 300s art photographers. His hometown base of operations was Carmel, California. He was an accomplished level concert pianist. His big decision was to choose photography. He advocated for photography in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. He started collecting photographs as a large part of the result of his advocation. Adam’s practices in the darkroom would take his film and expose the light areas to give them little extra exposure in the development process. The light areas can become wider. He would cover the dark areas so it is underexposed. This is called zone exposure.
This gives him a greater range of dark to light. This gave his photographs an expressive quality. Document photographs are manipulated to give them more drama consisting of: Zone System, he would visualize the effect that he wanted. He Photographed: Storm Clearing Yosemite Valley from 1944, Lake Tahoe, The Half Dome Series, this is also famous because the different exposures can be seen, and Moon in Half Dome. This has the whole range of expressive possibilities based on how much under overexposure he was doing.
The prints would be released various times after he took them years later. Beautiful scenes in Yosemite Valley and other locations: Aspens, Snow on the trees, Part of their appeal is the range of dark and light, El Capitan, Ice Lake, Thundercloud, Kings Canyon, and National Park. He is traveling around on roads that are primitive in the areas or nonexistent. He is hiking on trails that are not pristine. Precipice Lake career gap in the Sierra Nevada. It has snow even in July.
